Jan Critchlow joined MST Services in January 2006. Jan's main goal in life is to personify the "Most Likely to Succeed"
award that she received from her high school classmates. She holds a bachelor's degree in English from UCLA, a California
Teaching Credential and a Real Property Administrator designation. Her varied career path has included employment as a
property manager, administrative/budget supervisor, personnel administrator, chiropractic assistant, sales associate,
model and 4th grade teacher. Since 1993, Jan has enjoyed working as an assistant to senior-level executives. For relaxation,
this "California Girl" gardens, paints, reads and hangs out with her family.
A per diem MST rate code application has been submitted to CMS/Medicaid by the state of New Mexico. This was
facilitated by Melanie Duncan (MSTS) and Ken Warner (NM CYFD).

Cindy Swenson, PhD
|
Cynthia Cupit Swenson, PhD, associate director of Family Services Research Center
(FSRC) at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, SC has received
the Earl Higgins Achievement in Diversity Award. Her selection was based on the
MST neighborhood work and other contributions including leadership in
keeping diversity in the forefront of our work at FSRC and MUSC.
Dr. Swenson graduated from Northeast Louisiana University with a bachelor's and master's degree in psychology, minoring in French. Prior to her master's study, Dr. Swenson worked with street gangs outside of Los Angeles and studied French in Angers, France. She held a certification for teaching French through the Council of Development of French in Louisiana. She worked as a psychologist in the public school system in Louisiana for three years and then went on to earn doctoral degrees in clinical psychology and school psychology from Florida State University. She completed her internship and a post-doctoral fellowship in the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at MUSC in clinical child and pediatric psychology.
She is licensed by the state of South Carolina as both a clinical and school psychologist and holds national certification in school psychology. Dr. Swenson has dedicated dedicated her professional career to research and helping children and families and plans to continue doing so for years to come.
Friends of MST and FSRC Receive Honorary Degrees
Ida Taylor and Oliver Addison, co-authors of the MST Neighborhood Partnerships book, will each receive an honorary doctorate from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) this summer based on their extensive contributions toward advancing science in the areas of treatment of children and families and closing the gap on disparities in mental health and health care for people of color.

Network Partner Spotlight
South Carolina Department of Mental Health
The mission of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health (SCDMH) is to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses
and give priority to adults, children, and their families affected by serious mental illnesses and significant emotional disorders.
The Department is committed to eliminating stigma and promoting the philosophy of recovery, to achieving its goals in collaboration
with all stakeholders, and to assuring the highest quality of culturally competent services possible.
There are currently seven MST teams/sites in South Carolina and the SCDMH is the only MST provider in the state. The initial five
pilot sites were identified in Feb. 2002. Two additional teams were added in 2004 and 2005. Expansion of MST continues to depend
on funding and the current goal is to sustain operating teams to implement MST with fidelity. Each team has one supervisor and
includes two to four clinicians. There is one system supervisor who also fills the program manager role.
